Get support from the comfort of your own home!

Virtual Care or “telelactation”

telelactaion

is convenient, efficient and available whether you live in a large city or remote region. Telelactation has been proven to have several advantages over in-person and telephone-based support, and evidence shows that families accessing virtual lactation care are more likely to meet their goals!

Our software is PIPEDA compliant and our geographic boundary extends to all of British Columbia.

You will meet with one of our providers to discuss your feeding history and develop a plan. Telelactation visits may be combined with in-person assessments or care can be entirely online.

Visits are covered by MSP until 6 weeks postpartum with a referral from a healthcare provider.

Virtual care is helpful for the following:

Prenatal consultations

General questions and common feeding concerns

Families experiencing extensive challenges that require specialized care such as prescriptions, labs, ultrasounds etc.

Breast/chest care including treatment of mastitis, plugged ducts, blebs, or engorgement

Families looking for support while in a NICU with no Lactation Consultant

Returning to work or school

Assistance with tools such as pumps or nipple shields

There Are Some Limitations to Telelactation. Here is what you need to know prior to your appointment:

  • Both users must have an adequate internet connection for a video chat. Phone consultations are available if no internet connection is available.

  • Many challenges are related to a babies latch and so we may ask to view a feed. Having a second person available to position the camera is often useful.

  • Both users must have adequate lighting. Please keep a flashlight on hand for mouth assessments.

  • A ruler may be required for proper flange fitting.

  • You may be asked for a recent weight for your baby. If there have been any weight gain or intake concerns please have your baby weighed within 48hrs of the appointment.

  • You may be referred for an in-person assessment if there are any concerns for jaundice, tongue/lip tie, general well-being or additional assessments and latching support is needed etc.

  • Our prescribing and ordering authority exists only within the province of British Columbia. For those living elsewhere, we can make recommendations to your primary care provider.

If we wear our nursing covers backwards like capes, then everyone can see we’re lactating superheroes!
