About us:

You deserve to be supported by professionals who truly understand your unique situation, and have the specialized training to help you.

About us:

Breastfeeding is natural but it does not always come naturally.

96% of parents plan to exclusively breastfeed their baby, but by 6 months only 35% meet their goal.

And its no wonder, many new parents are surprised at just how challenging life with a new baby is and how little support is available. Between marathon feeds, physical recovery, small doses of sleep and a baby that wont let you put them down - like ever! - the stress builds up. Add on top of that, conflicting advice from well-meaning family, friends, neighbors and healthcare workers, and we have a recipe for disaster.

That’s where we come in! We are trained for this!

We are a team of midwives and physicians with a specialized practice in postpartum health and lactation medicine. We are dedicated to improving infant feeding experiences no matter your feeding choices or goals. We are here to help whether you are bottle feeding, pumping or exclusively breastfeeding/chestfeeding.

Humble Brag: we are really good at what we do!

Appointments are 60minutes long and include a full medical history, feeding observation and assessment and diagnosis of feeing challenges. You will leave with a personalized plan of action to help you reach your goals.

Services are covered by MSP from pregnancy until 6 weeks postpartum with a referral from a registered nurse, physician, nurse practitioner or midwife

Our Story:

The Milk Clinic began as a one-woman show in the height of COVID. Our founder, Tiffany Holdsworth Taylor was working in Penticton, BC as a Midwife when healthcare changed forever. Infant feeding supports were one of the first cuts during the pandemic, and one of the last to be restored. For some reason our health care system does not value lactation support, despite it being one of the most cost effective, preventative health care strategies out there. In fact every dollar that the government spends on lactation support, brings $35 in savings! But, we digress... Being pregnant herself, and seeing first hand the struggles, isolation and rapidly declining breastfeeding/chestfeeding rates new parents were facing, Tiffany used her “maternity leave” to open The Milk Clinic. She plopped her baby into a sling, put on her PPE and set out to help!

The Milk Clinic quickly grew to include new services like seeing families at the hospital prior to discharge, an extensive prenatal program, and adding a physician to her team. As word spread, families began traveling from other communities to access the clinic and virtual care became a popular option. Wanting to provide more care for families that do not have access to lactation consultants in their own communities, Tiffany collaborated with other Midwife-lactation consultants around the province to launch the BC-wide virtual clinic.

We envision a world where all families have access to non-judgmental, and evidence based support in the postpartum period. Having a baby always has been, and always will be hard. Our hope, is that with good support, families will be able to get through this period of their lives with confidence. We are here to play a small part in this dream.

Our values:

We care that you are supported on your feeding journey, no matter what that journey is.

  • We recognize that your experience in feeding your baby has a huge impact on your mental health, identity, relationship and parenting style.

  • You are more than “just a patient” to us. You are an individual with your own set of family, social, cultural and spiritual influences that will affect your early parenting journey which needs to be taken into consideration.

  • We believe in informed choice and evidence based care. Our job is to provide you with the information you need to make the best decisions for your family and unique needs.

  • There are no right or wrong goals. Having all the information you need to make an informed decision and understand all your options is an essential part of being supported.

  • It is ok to change your goals and plans. It is also ok to not like some things. We will not be offended if you dont like one of our suggestions and we will work with you to find an alternative.

  • Those who have a history with trauma, depression, anxiety or any other mental health challenge are more likely to experience infant feeding challenges and may find it to be a trigger. We believe support should be sensitive to these needs.

  • Historical oppression, racism, and family trauma can contribute to feeding challenges and access to support. We are committed to reconciliation and strive to provide patient-centered, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care.

  • Families from marginalized communities are at greater risk for feeding challenges and not meeting their goals and have less access to support. We work to be inclusive in accommodating for all clients regardless of gender identity, culture, age, sexual orientation or religion.
